Review of Metal Eclipse by Tristan Mory

This DVD contains 10 coin effects and 2 non-coin effects. All routines are very short, I wouldn’t even classify some of them as routines, and an example would be “Empty Hand”. Empty Hand is simply a single coin production whereby you show your hands empty and then producing a coin.

The non-coins effects are pretty unique and easy to do. “Chemical Flower” is a routine whereby a cigarette changes into a “flower” by inserting the cigarette into the fist. As for the routine “Hell”, I wouldn’t consider it as a magic routine. A poker card is folded and then cut with a pair of scissors, with the cut pieces; they are then arranged to form the word “Hell” and also a cross.

Now for the coin routines, most of the sleights for the coin routines are knuckle busting. This may not be a bad thing if you like tough sleights. However, though some of the routines look very good on the screen, you may not be able to do it as freely as you want to. The stand-up coin routines are very angle sensitive; you cannot perform them surrounded and you can’t even have spectators on your side. Apart from this, the sleight used for the routine is very tough to execute. Even when you can execute them properly, you will still end up with a weird way of showing your hands empty. Just imagine doing a “Now U C it, Now U don’t” without the gimmick, the vanish of a coin looks something like that. The retrieval/ production of the coin is also weird as you need to do a jerking motion to produce the coin.

On the other hand, the coin Matrixes are very interesting and rather simple to execute. By looking at the performance, you may find that there is nothing new here. But the modus operandi behind it is very different from your standard Matrixes. Some routines require you to use a gimmick which you may already have at home. With that gimmick, it makes your matrix look so much better.

I like the Matrix in this DVD, the stand-up routine is fun to practice. But this DVD is for the hardcore coin guys who like to accept challenges.
